Sanford McGuire - Biography
 
 Sanford R. (Mac) McGuire was installed as the 85th Chef de Gare for Le Grande Voiture de Maryland, La Societe des Quarante Hommes et Huit Chevaux, Aug 6, 2006, at his American Legion Home, Edwin C. Creeger Jr. Post 168, Thurmont.

 

    He was installed along with the rest of the Grande's 2007 slate of officers by Sous Chef de Chemin de Fer Louis Sewell. Frederick/Carroll Voiture Locale 155 and Post 168 hosted the Grande Promenade Aug. 4-6, 2006.

 

    Mac has served as Grand Chef de Train (West) and Chef de Gare of VL155 the past two years. He takes over for Grand Chef de Gare Passe William C. Adcock. 

 

    Mac was born at home in Dibble, Okla., and was reared in McClain County, Okla. He joined the U. S. Air Force in January 1959 after graduating from high school in May 1958.
 

   He completed Basic and Medical Corps Technical  School at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas. He was assigned to the 3535th U.S. Air Force Hospital at Mather AFB, Sacramento, Calif., where he and Sharon met and were married in May 1960. They have four children and four grandchildren.

 

   Mac was transferred to the Armed Forces Institute of Pathology (AFIP), Washington, D.C. where he was discharged from active duty in 1962. He worked as a civilian employee at AFIP until 1967, when he transferred to U.S.D.A.?s Beltsville Agriculture Research Center conducting poultry research.

   He earned his B.S. degree in Animal Science at the University of Maryland and was named dairy herd manager at Beltsville. He retired in 2001 with a total of 43 years active federal service.

   Mac and Sharon moved to Thurmont in 2003. He transferred his membership from VL265 to VL155 and is active in Edwin C. Creeger Jr. Post 168, Thurmont.
